Upper Moutere, New Zealand
Sally Wisheart and Barry Clelland were simply looking for a rural lifestyle block when they fell in love with a property on Neudorf road that happened to have a very run down strawberry patch. After a 5 year long-distance relationship, this couple was ready for the next challenge and have turned the 8.5ha farm into a viable business selling not only Strawberries but delicious homemade jams.
Barry was born and bred in Golden Bay and has always been super practical, a skill that has come in handy with rebuilding the farm.
Sally is originally from Wellington which is where she met Barry while finishing her commerce degree. Although she doesn’t have a food background she set out to make good old fashioned jams using their own Strawberries and other locally sourced fruits like cherry, blueberry and quince.
Made in small batches by hand Moutere Fruits Jam really do have that homemade flavour and with 18 varieties to choose from we are sure you can find a favourite.
The farm has been expanded to include 50 ewes, who are currently lambing, 2 Kunekune pigs, 40 chickens, border collie dogs, 3 cats and just added this week, 2 belted galloway calves. If this doesn’t sound busy enough between them Sally and Barry also have 10 children!
The Junction is proud to support this great small, truly local business, we all have a favourite flavour so ask us what it is next time you are in store.
